In August 2024, Sony Block Solutions Labs, in partnership with Startale, introduced Soneium, an Ethereum Layer 2 built on the OP Stack.
As an Optimistic Rollup, Soneium inherits Ethereumβs security while offering a fast, EVM-equivalent environment with 2-second block times. It uses $ETH as the gas token, but developers can leverage account abstraction to provide gasless experiences at the application layer, making it more accessible for mainstream onchain experiences.
